Mr. Ahu
I am impressed by u r analysis …..So far from the last months (since I am ready to take on CAT) unlike other articles ur’s is practical.
So I think u r the right person to analyze my issue and can find the practical answer to me, and keep it private.
I am a B.E (Elect) graduate(63.4%) 2002 pass out ,since than I have been working on different Organizations viz.Reader :Pvt Engg College ,Asst.Engr(operation ) :APTRANSCO,Jr.Engr:GVK Power plant
And since last 2 Yrs with Indian Oil Corp Ltd, 1.5 yrs I was in Crude Oil pipeline project.
I average student in the class with 63.4 % , don’t just carry away that I have poor knowledge on the Core discipline ….i never commercialized my depth in subject to score I draw the analogy with poor box office collections of a OFF-BEAT film my gate percentile 97.69, selected thru open competition for Indian Oil in a very cut throat competition .
I don’t have academic accomplishments like paper presentations, quizzes, etc.
In the professional front too don’t have great recognitions to claim... ( I am working on a project to get fame …in the org) except few which are just for NAME SAKE
All I believe in my creative depth ….desperately want to make it to IIM …
For IIM I guess clearing CAT is not a deal,,, one shud have strong track record…
Please analyze my CASE and let me know am I targeting beyond my Calibre….
Please give me practical point of view rather philosophical.
Awaiting your reply..
Regards

IIM Ahmedabad is very particular about Academic track record and extra curricular activities. I think other IIMs too look for similar profiles, though with varying weightage to different aspects of your professional and personal achievements.
Your academic records may not sound too impressive. However, if you perform really well in CAT and impress in GD and interview, you might make it. But at this moment, I would suggest you concentrate on following things:
- Improve your grasp on English and start writing proper English rather than sms language. - Go to a CAT centre and appear a mock test to know where you stand - Think hard and find out if you really want a management degree, think how passionate you are about IIM. If you are motivated only by the money IIM grads command, rethink. - You should try to get a score of about 99.5+ percentile in CAT to get a decent number of calls from various IIMs. - Try to improve your General knowledge, business knowledge and world politics. May help you in GD. These things take time to build.
Good luck!

Though this is not official, I can tell you from my experience that "Moderate" means about 2 to 3 years of experience. This is the bracket most preferred by the employers and hence is given more weightage while selecting.
Anything more than 4 years is considered negative as far as employability is concerned.
