dear ashutosh sir, i have visited your website and found it useful to me in my cat preparations. i am a basically a agriculture student studying in the final year of this course.my academic record is perfect still now with >90 percentile. i have certain problems with my confidence levels in writing mba examinations. in my college still now i have not found even a single person who is opting for mba. this is the main reason for my drop in confidence level. kindly give me suggestions for improving all round ability to prepare for cat examinations for this november cat 2007. please sir....

Hi Vinod, Thanks for writing to me. You academic record would certainly help you in securing a call.
However, to improve your confidence, you need to have the following: - A good set of people to compete with - Thorough preparation - A belief that you are better than most of the CAT takers (Keep telling yourself that) - Steady progress on percentile scores and number of questions you attempt
I suggest that you join a good coaching class in your city where you can compete with others and learn from them. Fall into a routine and regularly evaluate your performance. Work hard if you don't see any significant improvement in your performance after several tests. Analyze each test and ask yourself why you couldn't answer as many questions as you would have liked to answer.
From my experience, I can tell you that Confidence comes only from preparation. It's natural to have a weak heart when you see so many smart guys and girls at the final CAT exam centre and wonder where you stand and whether you will ever make it to the IIMs. But if you know that you have prepared hard and you can answer any sort of questions, come what may, you will be fine.
Work hard till the point where you yourself will think that "Hah, I am better than most of these bunch of guys". Then only you would make it!
Good Luck!

Saurabh, building vocabs is a systematic process and for that a good reading habit is essential. Try to read magazines and newspaper editorials. Read fast and come back for a second time if you don't understand certain sections. But, don't worry much while reading, about your vocabs and all that. Stay focused on the content and intent of the passage.

Hi Ashutosh,
U are doing a great job by guiding ppl through this phase of 'preparing for an MBA admission', which is a turning point to many..Kudos!
I graduated out of College in May last year. With good grades in the school and collegiate levels(over 90%), I was motivated to take up MBA and hence gave my first attempt at CAT last yr. I was able to manage 89.7 % with an almost even split in all 3 sections. I've been working with an MNC for the past 6 months and since finding time amidst the busy work schedule became increasingly difficult, I opted for a temporary break from work, until Nov. Now that I am left with lots of time, I want to utilise it properly to develop on my strengths and concentrate on my weak areas, which primarily revolves around the Verbal section. Can u kindly suggest how I should go abt devising a plan for the coming 3 months.? Will taking tests evryday help or it can be done thrice a week? pl put fwd ur valuable suggestions..
